Midnight Moondust: A Timeless Session with Kayla & Clair

Equine photography takes on a whole new kind of magic after sunset, when the world quiets and the connection between horse and rider becomes the true focus. Midnight Moondust is a fine‑art black‑background portrait session designed to capture that bond with depth, emotion, and intention. In this session with Kayla and her senior mare, Clair, we blended precision lighting with the cool tones of Blue Hour to create timeless, high‑end equine portraits that feel both intimate and cinematic.

Waterfowl Photography at Lake Lida Minnesota:

Lake Lida is one of the many beautiful lakes in Minnesota and is one of the larger lakes in the area. I have been there several times now and I have used both my Nikon D810 with a Tamron 150-600mm lens and my new Z8 with a Nikkor 180-600mm. I was excited when my new lens came in and I wanted to try my had at waterfowl photography on the lake with it. The trip exceeded every expectation. As expected the new setup offered much sharper and easier tracking of the birds.

The Chocolate Falls
Grand Falls also knows as Chocolate Falls is located in Northern Arizona on the Navajo Nation. It is created by the Little Colorado River but only flows when the area has had a lot of precipitation

The Chocolate Falls

with our current monsoon season the Falls are flowing very strongly right now. It was fun to see them with all that water flow. I decided this time I wanted to get a picture from the bottom so my pictures would look different from last time. For the shot I did a long exposure because it wanted it to look more like chocolate milk than muddy water. It was more than a little muddy at the bottom but worth the hike and the new photo perspectives. It was raining off and on while I was there which brought some interest to the sky.
